HARDIN - The Calhoun Sheriff's Office has announced charges for a Godfrey man after a complaint alleging child sexual assault in rural Calhoun County.

A 38-year-old Godfrey man was arrested Dec. 30, 2025, after Calhoun County authorities investigated the complaint, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

On December 30, 2025, Sheriff Zach Hardin arrested Tommy R Thompson, age 38 of Godfrey, Illinois, for the following offense:

Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault – Victim Under 13-Years-Old (Class X Felony).

Calhoun County Sheriff Zach Hardin said Tommy R. Thompson was arrested on an allegation of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under 13 years old, a Class X felony. The sheriff’s office said the investigation began on Dec. 18, 2025, when it received the complaint.

During the investigation, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the United Child Advocacy Network to assist in forensic child interviews and worked with the Illinois Department of Child & Family Services, the sheriff’s office said. Sheriff Hardin also executed multiple court-authorized search warrants “to attempt to gather additional information,” the release said.

The Calhoun County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a felony warrant of arrest for Thompson on Dec. 29, 2026, for the offense, according to the sheriff’s office.

Thompson was arrested without incident and transported to the Jersey County Jail, where he is being held without pretrial release pending a further hearing, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said it “would like to thank the brave victim for coming forward, the family of the victim, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, United Child Advocacy Network (UCAN), Illinois Department of Child & Family Services (DCFS), and the Calhoun County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the investigation and ongoing prosecution.”
