For her achievements, Kaitlyn Foppe is a Student of the Month for Father McGivney Catholic High School.
Foppe will graduate within a few days, and she has had an intensely successful run throughout her high school career. She joined the concert choir and the Griffins for Life Club during her freshman year, then started the Knitting Club as a junior. She has also participated with the Liturgical Ministry Team.
She serves as a House Leader and a Student Ambassador. In these positions, Foppe mentors and advocates for her peers.
She was recently named an Illinois State Scholar and Silver Medallion recipient, which puts her at the top of her class. Foppe was also a finalist for the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition, an experience wherein she performed live at The Fox Theatre with her cousin and received scholarships.
In fact, music is Foppe’s first love. She began playing piano at age 6 and regularly plays in festivals and competitions for the National Federation Districts of Music Club. She has competed at the state level through this organization.
She started violin at age 7 and has played in various ensembles, including the SIUE Suzuki Strings Tour Group, the SIUE Suzuki Advanced Chamber Ensemble, and a chamber group with Webster University. As a sophomore, she traveled to the Czech Republic and Poland to play violin, which she described as “very cool.” She has won several awards for her violin talents.
During her junior year, Foppe became the organ scholar at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, a “huge honor and incredible opportunity” that has allowed her to learn how to play the organ. This has influenced her future career plans.
“After graduation, I will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, to study music,” she shared. “I will be focusing on liturgical organ playing, and hopefully be a professional church music director/organist one day.”
