WASHINGTON, D.C. – Combat Veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth joined fellow U.S. Senators Andy Kim (D-NJ), Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) along with Afghanistan Veteran Max Rose and VoteVets Veterans to call out Donald Trump for breaking promise after promise to the American people, chastising the President for ensnaring America in yet another expensive war with no clearly defined end-state.

Duckworth spoke about the rising costs our servicemembers and Americans are facing thanks to Trump’s illegal war of choice, arguing that it is long past time that the President of the United States starts caring more about national interest than self-interest and ends this unjustified conflict immediately. Duckworth’s remarks can be found on her YouTube and photos can be found on her website.

Key Quotes:

  • Duckworth on Trump’s incompetence as Commander-in-Chief: “When somebody puts on the uniform of this great nation and makes the commitment that they are willing to lay down their lives to defend the United States of America, they trust that their civilian leadership will do right by them: that we’re not going to send them into senseless wars, that we are going to actually have a plan, that we’re going to know what the mission is, that we’re going to know what the end-state is and that we’re going to bring them home. Yet we have an Administration that has done none of these things… We’re not better off.”
  • Duckworth’s message to American troops: “This President campaigned on ‘America First,’ no more senseless wars and that [he’s] going to bring prices down immediately… Well guess what? He’s done the opposite of all of that. So I have one message to send our troops who are in harm’s way right now: We are fighting for you. We’re going to hold this Administration accountable and we’re going to make sure we live right by the sacrifices you’re willing to make… Because [our military families] are going through a hell of a lot right now—all the while the orange guy down the street is building his Marie Antoinette ballroom.”
  • Duckworth on a War Powers Resolution finally advancing in the Senate: “This fight isn’t over. We still have troops in harm’s way, things are still more expensive, and we can and should do better. Shame on my Republican colleagues who continue to vote to support Donald Trump.”
