From 2:30–4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, community members can stop by Soulcial Square in the Morningstar Baptist Church parking lot across from The Salvation Army in Alton. You can receive free groceries, a hot meal from Big Meechie Food Truck, and basic healthcare services.
“Our monthly Block Parties are what community looks like when nobody has to earn their seat at the table,” said John Michel. “Friday in Alton, the meal is free, the groceries are free, the care is free — because dignity should never carry a cover charge.”
Michel founded Soulcial Kitchen, an initiative that aims to connect food trucks and restaurants with people experiencing food insecurity. The organization offers several programs, but their monthly Block Party for Good in both Alton and Swansea is a recurring way to engage.
Alton’s Block Party for Good is held on the fourth Friday of every month in Soulcial Square. Community members can receive free groceries from the St. Louis Area Foodbank’s Food on the Move Grocery Trailer, no questions asked.
Big Meechie Food Truck will provide free hot meals. Anyone who wants to undergo basic healthcare screening can do so courtesy of OSF HealthCare Community Outreach Teams.
