Tara Hurst started Tara Hurst Coaching & Consulting after her own weight loss journey led her to confront the “never-ending journey” of self-improvement. She began posting her meal plans and motivational content on social media, and she found that these topics resonated with people in the Riverbend community and beyond. Now, Hurst is a bestselling author and life coach who is determined to help others, especially women, succeed.
“They’ve just got to be willing to take that one step,” Hurst said. “When is the best time to have started? 10 or 20 years ago. When’s the next best time? Today.”
As a life coach, Hurst works with people who are struggling or who feel “stuck.” She believes everyone is “addicted to something,” whether that’s food, alcohol, stress or something else. The goal of her coaching is to help people understand the emotions behind their actions and change their behaviors.
She focuses on helping her clients find sustainable practices that they can carry into the future. Intentionality is a major part of her work. She believes everyone benefits from having someone in their corner who will support them, challenge them, and push them to achieve their goals.
Life coaching is different from mental health counseling. Hurst is happy to refer people to therapists or other resources if it becomes clear they need a more clinical approach.
She explained that an ideal candidate for life coaching will take ownership over making their life better. She wants to help people overcome self-sabotage and limiting beliefs.
“The perfect person for me is someone who is open to growth, who is willing to take an honest look at themselves and be willing to strip the masks away and strip the titles and the labels of things that they’ve carried around probably for a lifetime, and really just take a look at who they are when no one else is looking,” she said. “When people are willing to do that, that is really going to enable them to take the steps necessary to become the version of themselves that they want to be, or to actually follow through with things, or achieve a goal, or do the things that they want to do long-term.”
Beyond her coaching business, Hurst hosts several women's empowerment workshops and meetings throughout the community every month. She encourages attendees to prioritize personal and professional development through “connectworking.”
Hurst is also the author of two internationally bestselling books. The “Perfectly I’Mperfect” series invites women from around the world to write about overcoming their challenges. Hurst and Nina DeAngelo then compiled these chapters and published two books. They are currently working on their third.
As a local business, Tara Hurst Coaching & Consulting is a member of the RiverBend Growth Association and was recently named the RBGA Small Business Excellence Award winner for September. Hurst expressed her excitement for the recognition and thanked the RBGA for their work in the community to empower local businesses, a mission that is close to Hurst’s heart as she empowers many business owners.
“They’re amazing. They are just huge supporters,” she said. “I absolutely love all of the opportunities that RiverBend Growth Association has, as far as the speed networking and the mix-and-mingles. They are just huge supporters of local business, and it’s been an incredible way for me to really get locked in with the community on a personal level, because they’ve provided the opportunities.”
If you think you could benefit from working with Hurst, she encourages you to reach out via her website or by emailing coachtarahurst@gmail.com. She looks forward to helping more community members discover who they are and create the lives they want to lead.
