COLLINSVILLE — Illinois State Police Troop 8 issued 29 citations and arrests during a roadside safety check held in Madison County in August, Troop 8 Commander Capt. Casey Faro announced.
The roadside safety check was conducted to keep roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road, according to Illinois State Police. The project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Enforcement activity included one driving under the influence citation, one other alcohol or drug citation, five occupant restraint offenses, six registration offenses, nine driver’s license offenses and six insurance violations. Police also issued 23 written warnings.
Illinois State Police said alcohol and drug impairment are estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. In the United States, there is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes.
The enforcement message for the effort was “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
