GRANITE CITY — Three people were killed Saturday evening, Sept. 12, 2026, in Granite City when a vehicle Illinois State Police described as fleeing police crashed into another vehicle, authorities said.
Granite City officers first spotted the vehicle driving erratically at about 4:20 p.m. Saturday on westbound Pontoon Road near Maryville Road, according to Illinois State Police. Before officers could make contact with the vehicle, it struck another car at the intersection of Pontoon Road and Wabash Avenue.

Three people were killed in the crash, police said. As of Sunday morning, authorities had not clarified which vehicle the victims were in or whether anyone had been arrested.
The investigation remained ongoing. Granite City police asked for assistance from the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6.
