EAST ALTON — After 35 years in law enforcement, East Alton Police Chief Scott Golike is retiring from a career that included more than three decades of service with the Alton Police Department and the past five and a half years leading the East Alton Police Department.
Golike began his career with the Alton Police Department in December 1989. During his 27 years with the department, he rose through the ranks, reaching captain. He spent more than 15 years working in investigations, including six years as chief of detectives. He also served as a patrol watch commander.
In 2003, he was promoted to lieutenant.
Five and a half years ago, East Alton Mayor Darren Carlton approached Golike about becoming the village's police chief. He accepted the position and went on to lead the department until his retirement.
“Five and a half years ago, the mayor of East Alton came to me about becoming the East Alton Police Chief, and I took him up on the offer, and I am retiring,” Golike told those gathered at the meeting.
Carlton thanked Golike for his dedication and years of service to the East Alton community.
During the meeting, Sgt. Michael McCormick presented Golike with a retirement gift and a commemorative picture in recognition of his service.
Golike leaves behind a 35-year law enforcement career that included leadership, investigative work, and service to communities throughout the Riverbend.
