Illinois American Water applauds Governor JB Pritzker for calling on the new Congress to make the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) permanent. Access to safe, clean, reliable and affordable water is essential, and a permanent federal water assistance program would provide critical support for income-eligible households struggling to manage all household bills. We welcome the Governor’s recognition of reliable and affordable water service and stand ready to work with policymakers to advance a sustainable, long-term solution.

American Water has steadfastly supported the reauthorization of a federal Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program and has worked with a broad range of leaders to build support for renewing this critical program. As Members of Congress work to establish the agenda for the 120th Congress, American Water stands ready to assist.
