ALTON — A new route and a shift in parade day allowed more students to celebrate their Redbird Pride at Alton School District 11’s annual homecoming parade Wednesday night, Sept. 30, 2026, Superintendent Elaine Kane said.
The changes grew out of feedback from community members who participated in the Reimagine Alton Schools initiative, Kane said. She credited community partners with helping make the adjustments possible.
“Our new route and parade day are allowing even more students to celebrate their Redbird Pride,” Kane said. “We are grateful to our community partners whose support helped make these changes possible.”
Kane said the feedback underscored the community’s desire to preserve homecoming as a shared celebration.
“Homecoming has a special place in Alton’s history; our community made it clear that they want to celebrate together, and we are excited to continue the tradition,” she said.
The parade lineup included the Marching 100, Color Guard, AFJROTC, Student Council, Link Crew, FCCLA and Revive Club, football, flag football, cheer, cross country, golf, tennis, soccer and volleyball teams, along with Steppers and Dance.
The 2026 Homecoming Court was also part of the lineup. Court members are Lauren Conwell, Lydia Schrumpf, Courtaysia Slack, Alyssa Watson-Duey, Itzel Sanchez-Cook, Aondria Morgan, Donovan Ducey, Patrick Henessey, Aiden Stephens, Lucas Ventimiglia, Greyston Lee and Andre’ Edwards.
A homecoming pep rally for Alton High School students was scheduled immediately after the parade. Plans called for introductions of participants in clubs and fall sports, with special recognition for seniors.
Homecoming continues Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, when the Alton Redbirds face Mascoutah High School at Public School Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
