ALTON – Two individuals from Alton face felony charges in separate cases of domestic battery.

Shane M. Vanetten, 41, of Alton, was charged with a Class 3 felony count of aggravated battery and a Class A misdemeanor count of domestic battery on Jan. 6, 2026.
On Dec. 25, 2025, Vanetten allegedly knowingly and without legal justification caused bodily harm to a household or family member who was 60 years of age or older at the time of the offense.
The East Alton Police Department presented the case against Vanetten, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial appearance in court.
Another Alton resident, 34-year-old Sharnice S. Hicks, was charged in a separate battery case on Jan. 12, 2026. Hicks faces one count each of domestic battery (a Class 4 felony) and resisting a peace officer (a Class A misdemeanor).
On Jan. 12, 2026, Hicks reportedly knowingly caused bodily harm to a household or family member without legal justification after previously being convicted of violating an Order of Protection in 2023, also in Madison County. She is also accused of resisting arrest by pulling away from the arresting officer.
Hicks was granted pretrial release from custody in her latest case, presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
