ROXANA — The Riverbend East Rotary Club honored Roxana High School seniors Dalton Carriker and Alix Hernandez with the October Service Above Self awards, recognizing their dedication to community service and leadership.

Mark Smith, president of the Riverbend East Rotary Club, presented the awards to Carriker and Hernandez during a recent ceremony. Both students exemplify the Rotary’s core value of putting others first through their various volunteer efforts and school involvement. The two students are also huge Difference Makers in their community and school.
Carriker, a varsity baseball and football athlete, said Service Above Self means prioritizing others, a principle he practices daily. He assists younger players at baseball camps and volunteers alongside his mother in concession stands during games.
After graduation, Carriker plans to pursue college baseball and study criminology, with aspirations of becoming an FBI special agent.
Hernandez, active in theatre, student council as vice president, vocal ensemble, and multiple other organizations, mentors students with disabilities by engaging them in hands-on learning activities.
She also volunteers at school and community events, including the annual Christmas fundraiser that supports local families. Hernandez hopes to continue community service after high school and aims to establish her own committee to organize inclusive events.
