WOOD RIVER – A man from East Alton accused of recklessly fleeing police at high speeds faces a felony charge in Madison County.

Michael A. Malloy, 45, of East Alton, was charged with a Class 4 felony count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer on Jan. 26, 2026.
Malloy allegedly knowingly attempted to elude a police officer who had given him a visual or audible signal to stop the vehicle he was driving on Nov. 11, 2025, reportedly fleeing from the officer at over 21 mph above the legal speed limit on I-255.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Malloy’s pretrial release from custody. According to the petition, Malloy’s vehicle had been reported as wanted out of Jersey County for a violation of an Order of Protection “involving death threats.”
Wood River Police officers located the vehicle in Wood River and attempted a traffic stop, during which the vehicle’s passenger reportedly identified Malloy as the driver of the vehicle before Malloy fled.
“Defendant then fled the stop, traveling 100 mph in a 65 mph zone on I-255, using the turn lanes to weave through traffic,” the petition states.
After the Wood River officer terminated the pursuit for safety purposes, officers in Jersey County found Malloy returning to his residence in the same vehicle a few minutes later, where he was then arrested.
The Wood River Police Department presented the case against Malloy, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial appearance in court.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
