EDWARDSVILLE – The holiday season is filled with celebrations. To help make sure those celebrations don’t end in tragedy, the Edwardsville Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois in a major traffic safety effort. From Friday, December 12 through Monday, January 5, our officers will take part in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI.” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
These supplemental enforcement efforts are supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s statewide outreach media program, “It’s Not a Game,” which reminds motorists that driving is serious business. "This season, let's commit to making safety our top, shared priority.

Take responsibility: If you choose to drink or use substances that cause impairment, pre-arrange a sober ride. Driving impaired is an unacceptable risk. We are increasing patrols this holiday season on impaired driving,” said Lt. Matt Senci.
The Edwardsville Police Department urges everyone to take the following steps to prevent impaired driving and reduce the severity of crashes:
- Plan a Sober Ride: Before you go out, arrange for a sober driver, use public transport, or book a ride-share.
- Report Dangerous Drivers: If you spot an impaired driver, pull over safely and call the police.
- Stop a Friend: Be a hero - take the keys and prevent friends from driving impaired.
- Buckle Up: Always wear your seat belt. It's your most important safety defense.
- Focus and Slow Down: Drive within the speed limit and avoid all distractions.
This campaign is made possible through federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is part of Illinois’ “It’s Not a Game” statewide media outreach program.
