EDWARDSVILLE - During their regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, the Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a separation agreement with former Superintendent Dr. Patrick Shelton.

Shelton was suspended with pay on Sept. 25, 2025, amid an ongoing investigation. No further details have been released about the nature of this investigation.
After the vote on Dec. 15, Board President Bob Paty read a prepared statement in which he acknowledged his individual conversations with each Board member over the past few months. He noted that while Board members have expressed “concerns” about maintaining transparency in personnel discussions, all Board actions can be reviewed through the Freedom of Information Act.
Additionally, Paty emphasized the Board’s commitment to supporting Dr. Allen Duncan, who was appointed the Acting Superintendent on Sept. 25 and has served in that role since.
“Dr. Duncan has the full authority and support of this board to lead this district,” Paty said. “Over the next couple of months, we'll be working with Dr. Duncan to chart a path for this district that keeps our schools current with best practices, increases the engagement of students, teachers, staff, parents and the community, while also maintaining a strong financial foundation. We will rely heavily on Dr. Duncan to navigate the tactical and strategic challenges before us with the goals of ensuring District #7 is a school district of choice in this region.”
