WOOD RIVER — Two individuals were airlifted with serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2025, at Illinois Route 111 and Memorial Lane, Wood River Deputy Police Chief Tim Gegen said.
The collision occurred around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday and involved one vehicle traveling on Route 111 that appeared to strike another vehicle, Gegen said. Two people were transported by ARCH helicopters with serious injuries, Gegen said, while two others were taken to area hospitals by ground ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation. As of 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the roads in that vicinity were closed. Authorities urged residents to avoid the area to allow for investigation and cleanup efforts.
The Wood River Police Department, Wood River Fire Department, East Alton Fire Department, and Alton Memorial Ambulance were also at the scene.
