SIKESTON, MO. — Global nonprofit Point 27 recently honored fallen Sikeston, Missouri Department of Public Safety Police Officer Henry Franklin, a U.S. National Guard Iraq War veteran who was shot and killed Oct. 6 while serving a warrant with his tactical team.

Point 27, based in Atlanta, sent Thin Blue Line Shields of Strength dog-tag necklaces inscribed with Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God,” to the Missouri DPS office for Franklin’s partner and fellow officers. The organization also provided Keepsake Folded Flag Pendant Necklaces inscribed with John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends,” for Franklin’s family.
“We want law enforcement officers and their families to know we value them and their sacrifices, that God loves them, and that they are never alone,” said Point 27 Director, U.S. Army (Ret.) Col. Dodd.
Dodd, who commanded a battalion of the first troops deployed to Afghanistan after the Sept. 11 attacks, wears a Shield of Strength inscribed with Joshua 1:9 alongside his government-issued dog tags. He also equipped soldiers in his command with similar Shields of Strength before deployment.
The Thin Blue Line Shields of Strength feature an engraved silver American flag with one metallic blue stripe. The design and scripture were selected by law enforcement officers.
After serving 27 years and four deployments in the military, Dodd founded Point 27 in 2014 to share scripture-inscribed dog tags that had encouraged him and his troops with members of the military and veteran communities.
