CASEYVILLE - Illinois State Police Troop 8 units responded Saturday night, March 7, 2026, to a fatal crash on Illinois Route 159 in Caseyville, where a northbound passenger car struck a pedestrian and the person’s canine near an intersection, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 8:57 p.m. March 7, 2026, on Illinois Route 159 northbound at Hollywood Heights Road in Saint Clair County, according to a preliminary investigation.

Illinois State Police said a passenger car traveling north struck a pedestrian and their canine as they ran east while crossing Illinois Route 159 near the intersection.

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The canine was injured and was taken from the scene to an emergency veterinarian. The driver of the passenger car was transported to a local hospital with injuries, police said.

Northbound lanes of Illinois Route 159 were shut down for the crash investigation, police said. All lanes were reopened at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
