For her hard work, Gina Truax is a Fischer Lumber Student of the Month for East Alton-Wood River High School.
Truax, a senior, has been named Most Valuable Player for the track team twice. She also qualified for state and nationals. She received the Most Valuable Player and 110% Award for cross country. She has also attended the New Balance Outdoor Nationals and Adidas Nationals for the 400-meter hurdles.
Truax participates in the school’s band program as a section leader, and she was named Student of the Month in the band. She recently joined the National Honor Society, which requires high grades and many hours of community service. She regularly volunteers as a senior mentor, where she helps guide underclassmen through their first year of high school.
It’s important to her to advocate for her peers. She serves as the school mascot during the winter season and spends a lot of time attending school events as the mascot. She is also Teen Mental Health First Aid-certified, a major accomplishment that helps her better support her classmates.
In her limited free time, she enjoys running, listening to music, and watching F1. She has big plans for after high school, and her teachers and loved ones will be cheering her on.
“I will attend Illinois College for chemistry and graduate with a bachelor's! I also signed to do track!” Truax shared. “After college, I want to go and pursue radiological sciences!”
