JERSEYVILLE – Jerseyville Fire Chief Keith Norman recently gave an update on a devastating house fire that broke out on the morning of Monday, Dec. 22, 2025 in the 500 block of Pine Street in Jerseyville.

Chief Norman confirmed that two occupants who were still trapped inside the home during the fire had been rescued.
“Everyone did get out,” Norman said. “The Fire Department and Police Department worked together to get two people out of a second-story window.”
Norman said two adults, one male and one female, were transported from the scene via EMS, but had no current update on their condition. He said containing the blaze posed significant challenges, but firefighters were able to ramp up “defensive” measures once the home was unoccupied.
“There was a very high fire load that caught quickly and we were not able to access a lot of areas of the building,” Norman said. “When we got there, it was not safe, so once we confirmed we had everyone out, we did transfer to a defensive position on the fire fairly soon in the operations.”
Given the extensive damage sustained in the fire, Norman described the house as a “total loss” consisting mostly of interior damage. Firefighters at the scene were unable to determine where the fire originated, and Norman expects insurance investigators will determine the exact cause and origin of the fire.
Norman added that his department received assistance from the Carrollton and QEM Fire Departments in responding to the Dec. 22, 2025 Pine Street house fire.
