JERSEYVILLE – Jerseyville officials are asking the public to keep grass clippings away from public sidewalks and streets as lawn mowing ramps up amid the spring season.

Mayor Kevin Stork issued a reminder regarding mowing season at the April 28, 2026 City Council meeting.
“It’s mowing season and we know that with all this heavy rain we’re getting, if we can eliminate the grass clippings in the road that end up in our storm ditches, it’s greatly appreciated,” Stork said. “Please try to not blow that into the street.”
A similar reminder was included within the City Council agenda, containing additional details.
“Not only can grass clippings present a hazard for pedestrians and bicycles, but grass clippings get washed down into storm drains and clog the pipes and catch basins, which leads to street flooding,” the reminder states.
Residents are asked to either blow the grass clippings back onto the mowed lawn, or sweep and collect the yard waste and bring it to the city dump site if they have valid dump permits.

The appointment of Kevin Ward and reappointment of Eldon Medford to the Planning and Zoning Board with terms to expire in April of 2028. Ward will replace current board member James Frazier.
