ALTON - OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center has received their fourth consecutive “A” score on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.
The Leapfrog score measures patient health and safety, making note of how often patients present with a hospital-acquired injury or illness. Hospitals are rated from “A” to “F,” and St. Anthony’s was the only hospital in Madison and St. Clair Counties to receive an “A” grade.
“It really shows to the community that we are really invested in the patients’ safety and we’re the choice for healthcare in the area,” said Melissa Poletti, DNP, MHA, CPHQ, Manager of Quality and Safety. “We know we have great quality care at our hospital, and we’re just glad that everyone else can see that.”
Poletti and Melinda White, RN, BSN, Coordinator of Quality and Safety, explained that Leapfrog looks at data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The hospital also completes a survey every summer. Leapfrog combines this information to calculate a score for hospitals every spring and fall.
Poletti and White were proud to receive their fourth consecutive “A” score. They credited the St. Anthony’s staff members, called mission partners, for their commitment to patient health and safety.
“Our mission partners, they develop the most high level of care that they can. They do serve with the greatest love and care,” White said. “It’s really just an honor to work for an organization that the mission partners are so focused on the safety and quality that they provide that we are able to continue to get these kinds of ratings.”
White and Poletti work closely with patients and mission partners to minimize pressure injuries, falls, infections and “really anything quality and safety regarding patient harm or patient experience,” Poletti explained.
They collaborate to make sure patients receive optimum care while they are with St. Anthony’s. This is why they believe patients should choose St. Anthony’s for their care.
“If you go to a facility that is getting consecutive ‘A’ scores, you know you are going to obtain high-quality healthcare and they are going to take care of you,” White said. “That is what I would look for as a patient, that I’m going to a place that I know is going to deliver that high-quality healthcare.”
