COLLINSVILLE — Michaela Becherer, a Collinsville Police Department telecommunicator with two years on the job, has been named Illinois Telecommunicator of the Year for her handling of three significant incidents, along with other daily work.

The Illinois chapter of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials recognized Becherer for her work on a lifesaving incident, an incident involving a found baby and a complex death investigation, according to the department.

“This is a tremendous honor for Michaela and our department, especially considering she has only been a Telecommunicator for two years,” the department said.
