Archie Lee Deck, 86, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at his home in Godfrey. Born July 20, 1925 in Bethalto, IL, he was the son of Howard E. and Beulah (Black) Deck. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Laclede Steel in Alton after more than 40 years of service. On April 13, 1953 in Alton, he married the former Nancy Kline. She preceded him in death on December 19, 1996.
Surviving are six daughters, Sandra Gibson of Lagrange, TX, Linda Hartman of East Alton, Nancy Sloan of Pueblo, CO, Tracy Deck of Godfrey, Julie Mouser of Godfrey and Jesseca Hankins of St. Louis, MO, a step daughter, Marsha Sears of Crossville, TN, and a brother-in-law, Pete Tucker of Hartford. Also surviving are several sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Deck, a son, David Deck, a step daughter, Jackie Goheen and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012. Reverend Steve Shotts will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the United Way Fund.
