Arthur Glenn Wintjen, 84, died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at his home. Born January 25, 1928 in Pleasant Hill, IL, he was the son of Arthur Wintjen and Oma (Smith) Summers. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korea and retired from S.I.U.E. as an operating engineer. On May 24, 1952 he married the former Jeanette Ezell. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Terry Sue Clement and her husband Ron of Godfrey, Amie Shanahan and her husband Dan of Douglas, MI, and one son, David Wintjen of Godfrey, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, one brother, Jerome Wintjen of Bethalto, and one sister, Betty Gaines of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Ann Hayes. Visitation and funeral services will be private. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
