Dr. Robert L. Allen D.D.S., 85, passed away at 4:04 am Saturday March 24, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on March 27, 1926 the son of the late Dr. Glen I. and France (Fine) Allen.
He married Maxine C. Cochran. She preceded him in death.
Dr. Allen graduated from Alton Senior High School in January of 1944 he then enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in World War II. He graduated from Washington University School of Dentistry in 1953 and practiced in Alton for thirty-five years. Dr. Allen was a member of Omicron Kappa Epsilon honorary dent society and was a member of the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, the Madison County Dental Society and the Alton Dental Society. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1308 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 254 and New Piasa Chautauqua.
He is survived by two daughters Janet Schwaninger and Joan Cody Westerhold of Dow, IL, three grandchildren, Natalie Axley, Erik Westerhold and John Schwaninger, and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jaden and Jacob and one brother Dr. William Allen of Godfrey.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a son Kent Todd Allen and a sister Sevelia Holmes.
Per his wishes there will be no visititation and memorial services will be private.
Memorials may be directed to the Disable Veterans of America or the 5 A’s Animal Shelter.
