Eileen M. Budde, 79, passed away at 6:54 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at her home with family by her side.She was born on August 12, 1937 to the late Edna and Walter Bensman in Alton, Illinois. She married John R. Budde on August 24, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Church in Alton, Illinois. He survives.Eileen loved to go camping with family and friends. She was well known in her neighborhood from her daily walks. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and feeding the birds. Spending time with her grandkids brought her great joy.Eileen was a volunteer with the Godfrey Knights of Columbus for many years. She was actively involved in Cub Scout Pack 173 as a committee member, den mother and volunteer. She loved taking care of friends and family members who were ill or needed help of any kind, including driving them to church, doctor appointments, or errands.She was a long-time member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She provided food for funeral lunches and other events at the church.She began her career as a secretary at the former Peavey Co. Flour Mill in Alton, Illinois, following graduation from Marquette Catholic High School in 1955. She then stayed at home to raise her children for more than 25 years, including the many other children she babysat in her home. She received her CNA certificate from Lewis and Clark Community college in 1990. She worked with BJC HealthCare as a home health aid, followed by 14 years at Villa Rose Senior Living Community in Bethalto, Illinois. She retired in 2003. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Gene, Paul, Gerald and Donald Bensman, and two sisters Roberta Miller and Dorothy Hartzell. Along with her husband of 59 years, she is survived by three daughters, Shelly (Kevin) Green, Sheryl (Brian) Luly, Sandy Budde; two sons, John (Angie Holland) Budde, David (Lesley) Budde; nine grandchildren, Sara and Logan Green; Rachel (Nick) Kessinger; Grace Luly; Alyssa, Bob and Zach Budde; Dylan and Abby Budde. Also surviving is her sister Dee Pace of Corpus Christi, Texas.Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 820 W. Homer Adams Pkwy. in Godfrey, Illinois. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Rudy Nowakowski OMI and Deacon Jay Wackerly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton, Illinois.Memorials may be made to the BJC Hospice Program.
