Elmer Rogers

Wood River |

Elmer L. Rogers, 81, passed away at 5:38am on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Alton Memorial Hospital.  He was born on December 20, 1930, in Booneville, Indiana the son of the late Clarence and Esther (Guthrie) Rogers.  He married the former Loreeta Wilson on June 19, 1955, in Macomb, Illinois and she survives.  Other survivors include two daughters: Carole Rogers of Marion, North Carolina, Janet Ruth Rogers of Wood River, two sons and a daughter in law: Bill Rogers of Wood River, David and Caren Rogers of Lexington, Kentucky, three grandchildren: Amanda Marie Agner, Ryan Matthew Agner and his wife: Niki, Sarah Elizabeth Agner, one brother: William Everett Rogers of Booneville, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.

He was formerly employed as a minister in Arkansas and Illinois.  He worked through the Nazarene Church in Kansas City, Kansas on rescue missions.  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War.  He enjoyed doing chalk drawings and doing crossword puzzles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a half brother.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.  Visitation will continue from 10am until time of funeral services at 11am on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Roxana Church of the Nazarene.  Rev. Dr. Larry Lacher will officiate.  Burial will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton with full military rites by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308. 

Memorials are suggested to Roxana Church of the Nazarene.
