Elsie M. "Effie" Swift, 90, passed away at 2:55pm on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at University Nursing and Rehab. She was born on July 31, 1922, in Butler County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Ellis P. and Louisa (Daugherty) Swift. She married Jessie "Shelby" Swift on March 26, 1949, in Livermore, Kentucky and he preceded her in death. Survivors include five daughters and sons in law: Patsy and Harold Boyd of Owensboro, Kentucky, Ann Lomelino of Alton, Tina and Luke Flagg of Pocahontas, Illinois, Margaret Swift of Elgin, Illinois, and Linda and Larry Lambird of Pocahontas, Illinois, two sons: Jesse Swift of Wood River, Carl Swift of East Alton, fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren.
A homemaker, she formerly attended Mt. Olive General Baptist Church in Ohio County, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two stillborn sons: Odie and L.W., five brothers, and four sisters.
In celebration of her life, private visitation was held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Burial followed at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society Relay for Life Riverbend will be accepted at the funeral home.
