Iola Atteberry

Iola Lorraine (Schumann) Atteberry, 90, died at 3:48 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022, at her home, under the care of BJC Hospice.

She was born on February 17, 1932, in Kampsville to the late Phillip and Hattie (Booth) Schumann, and was lovingly raised by her grandparents, after the death of her mother when Iola was a young girl.

She married Delbert Atteberry on September 19, 1954, in Jacksonville, and together they shared in 22 years of marriage, prior to his death on October 11, 1976.

Iola and Delbert raised their family in Carrollton and after his passing, Iola was employed for nearly 20 years as a cook at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, retiring in 1994, and shortly thereafter, settling in Jerseyville.

Iola enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was devout in her faith. She enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing the word of God with others. She was a longtime and faithful member of Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville, where she was blessed to create many long and lasting friendships throughout the years.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Phyllis Atteberry of Jerseyville and Viola and Dennis Buchanan of Cottage Hills; a son, George Atteberry of Bedford, Indiana; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Schumann of Jerseyville; a daughter-in-law, Carol Peach of Independence, Missouri; her former daughter-in-law, Judy Kline of Kane; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Delbert Lee Atteberry; a grandson, Joey Atteberry, and a daughter-in-law, Marilee Atteberry.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville. Revs. Clyde Shaw and James Beck will officiate.

Burial will follow at Carrollton Cemetery in Carrollton, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the Family, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
