Matthew Klopfer

Matthew Michael Klopfer, 42, died unexpectedly at 11:00 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Hannibal, Missouri of an apparent heart attack.Matt was born on July 13, 1970 in Alton, one of four children born to Michael A. & Deborah A. (Sloan) Klopfer.He was raised in Alton, and graduated in 1988 from Alton Senior High School.  He enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corp., and served his country honorably in Iraq during Desert Storm.He returned home and began working as a boilermaker out of Boilermakers Local #363 in Belleville and has been employed there since.Matt inherited his loyalty to the Chicago Cubs, and was widely known for his love of gardening, cooking, making some of the best homemade bread, and outgoing and generous spirit.He married the former Kari Sue Morris on Nov. 22, 2008 at the former Wings of a Dove Church in Jerseyville, and they were soon going to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary.In addition to his wife, surviving are his father, Michael A. Klopfer of Alton; three children, Hayden Crone, Matthew Klopfer, and Gabriel Klopfer all at home; a sister, Michelle Klopfer and her fiance' Andy Bechtold of Godfrey; two brothers, Ben Klopfer of Godfrey and Patrick Klopfer of Alton; his godparents, Paul & Dominica Miller of Godfrey; his inlaws, Pam & Bill Dilks and Dennis & Josephine Morris all of Grafton; two sisters in law & a brother in law, Ashley & Mike Hill  and Kelsey Brandt all of Grafton along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.He was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah A. Klopfer on Jan. 26, 2011; a daughter, Haley Faye Hazelwonder on July 3, 2010; and grandparents, William & Carole Sloan and Julius and Marie Klopfer.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Delix Michel officiating.Burial will be in the Noble Cemetery in Otterville, with the Alton VFW Post 1308 conducting military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home
