Vernon “Speed” William Drewes, 84, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday November 22, 2012 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis.
He was born Apr. 25, 1928 in Charleston, IL to the late William George & Zelma Mae (Cokley) Drewes.
On Feb. 28, 1955, he and Doris Jean Drewes were married in Ottawa, IL. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2012.
The US Army Korean War veteran retired from the Army Corps of Engineers. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include: a daughter, Vicky Franklin of East Alton; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim Drewes of East Alton and Tom & Eileen Dillon of Chesterfield, MO; 4 grandchildren, Amy & Mark Franklin, Dylan Drewes and Brett Dillon; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph & Phyllis Drewes of Bethalto; and a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda & Ronnie Simpson of Colombia, TN.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Drewes and a sister, Norma Jean “Skip” Larson.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of services at 6:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at Paynic Home for Funerals. Private burial with military honors will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
