Jess Piper, A View from Rural Missouri, will speak at the Madison County Farm Bureau in Edwardsville on Tuesday, November 11, at 5:30 pm. She will talk about how farmers and other rural Americans can improve their circumstances within the current agriculture crisis.
Piper is the voice of a growing network of rural folks who have witnessed decades of "red state" policies that are leaving generations behind in schools, jobs and healthcare. She ran unsuccessfully for Missouri state representative in 2022.
Undeterred, she has developed a social media presence popular in rural Missouri on Spotify, Substack and Facebook with tens of thousands of subscribers.
Piper was born in rural Arkansas, and her experience has shaped her politics. She made her way through college and was an English teacher for 16 years before jumping into politics. She is also a mother and grandmother and still lives on a small farm in one of the most rural areas of northern Missouri.
Now Piper is traveling through the country roads of Illinois, finding a connection between urban and rural food deserts, attacks on public education, healthcare and policies that impact those with the least, regardless of their zip code.
Join her on Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Madison County Farm Bureau, 900 Hillsboro Avenue in Edwardsville. Reservations are required and can be made on Eventbrite.
