All are welcome to a midday concert with strings from Early Music Missouri featuring Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's chamber work, Stabat Mater (The mother standing and watching), sung by Keith Wehmeier, countertenor, and Ashley Fabian, soprano.
Considered to be a Lenten highlight of Western music repertoire, this work was esteemed by J.S. Bach during Pergolesi's time.
French Enlightenment philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, wrote that the opening movement contained "the most perfect and touching duet to come from the pen of any composer."
